We would like to congratulate NACHU Chairman, Francis Kamande, for being awarded with Head of State Commendation (HSC) during the Jamhuri Day Celebrations on December 12th, 2010.

His involvement in cooperative organizations and the private sector has had a wide reach. In addition to his role as Chairman at NACHU, he is also the Director in Cooperative Communication Holdings Ltd and a Governor in Kenya Private Sector Alliance.

The NACHU team appreciates the continuous efforts of Kamande to help strengthen the housing cooperative movement. His wisdom and experiences have benefited both NACHU’s staff and its members.

On October 31st, 2011, the United Nations officially launched the 2012 International Year of Co-operatives (IYC) in New York City. The IYC is a year-long celebration and acknowledgement of this unique, alternative business model that empowers members to govern their own society and enjoy equal benefits while forwarding socio-economic development.

On Wednesday September 14th 2011, NACHU hosted the Zimbabwean Minister of Small and Medium Business and Cooperatives, Ms. Sithembiso Nyoni, for a meeting to discuss the growth of the cooperative sector within their countries. Both parties demonstrated enthusiasm for learning from each other to enhance their role in the cooperative movement.

On Monday October 3rd, United Nations member states from around the globe celebrated World Habitat Day. Officially organized by the UN Human Settlements Program (UN-HABITAT), the annual event creates a forum for countries to celebrate and share their successful initiatives in providing shelter, basic services and facilities to their populations.
